Botox

Botox is a neurotoxin medication which blocks the communication between the nerve and the muscle. With injection of minute amounts of Bot ox, the facial muscles responsible for "dynamic wrinkles" are relaxed resulting in a more youthful appearance. Dynamic muscles come and go when we smile, laugh or frown and include crow's feet (lines extending laterally from the eye), frown lines (lines from the eyebrows) and horizontal forehead lines.

Side effects are uncommon with the administration of Botox but can occur. The side effects are temporary and may include bruising or swelling at the injection site, headache and the possibility of a drooping eyelid.

The benefits of the treatment typically last 3 to 4 months. To get optimal resolution of the lines, it is recommended that the area be re-injected when the movement starts re-emerging. The appointment time required for a Botox treatment is typically 15 minutes; it is a quick, relatively pain-free treatment. However, there is always a certain amount of discomfort with any injection. Normal activities may be resumed after a Botox injection.
